Grading the Ravens: Titans 13, Ravens 10
Written by Dan October 6th, 2008The Ravens lost another close game to another good opponent. Having lost 2 in a row and now sitting at 2-0, their season is on the brink…
Quarterback: D+
Flacco seemed disconnected from the rest of the offense. While he never got flustered, and never got sacked, he was unable to help the offense in any meaningful way on most drives. His turnovers were costly. The question is whether he was being held back or is still having trouble seeing the field.
Running Backs: B
Willis McGahee and Le’Ron McClain did a fine job. In the 3rd quarter it seemed as if McClain was finally wearing down the Titans defense, but the Ravens didn’t get too many more chances to run the ball after his score. Both runners did a good job, but still couldn’t overcome the lack of a passing game alone.
Receivers: C+
Derrick Mason was around, as always. Todd Heap, Demetrius Williams and Mark Clayton all finally made appearances as well. But overall, the unit was still problematic. At least they weren’t dropping balls.
Offensive Line: B
Against a ferocious front seven, the Ravens young OL held its own all game long. Flacco not being sacked is certainly something to be proud of - especially following last week’s 5-sack performance in Pittsburgh. But the pressure was on Flacco and it took several quarters for the running game to really establish itself. When it counted in the 4th quarter, the OL failed.
Defense: B+
One touchdow and two field goals is fine. A pair interceptions is nice too. Consistent handling of the Titans runners was effective. But when it counted most, the defense couldn’t make it happen. And sadly, the roughing penalty (as phantom as it was) was one of few times the Ravens actually got to Kerry Collins.

Special Teams: D
Sam Koch did his job, but you can’t say the same of any one else. Matt Stover missed a 45 yard field goal that would have made the difference. Yamon Figurs struggled returning kicks and punts. And the coverage units looked a mess.
Coaching: B+
Kudos to John Harbaugh and his staff for having this team ready to play another physical game so soon after the Pittsburgh game. Overall, there isn’t much to say bad about this coaching staff and this game. The only complaint might be against Cam Cameron, who needs to find a way to open this offense up while still protecting his quarterback. It’s becoming clear that 10-20 points may not always do it for this defense.
How would you rank the Ravens?
