A Little Love for #19
Written by Dan January 30th, 2008Today on ESPN.com you can check out a feature listing the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, as rated by a small panel of experts, including Marv Levy and Art Rooney Jr. One of the primary features of the article is where Tom Brady fits in the grand scheme of great QBs. But also in there is a pleasant little bit for Baltimore - Johnny U tops the list.
The article broke down QB attributes in a number of ways, from arm strength to killer instinct, and “Unitas consistently ranked higher than any other quarterback.”
Such an announcement is surely common knowledge to Baltimore football fans, but it’s rare that the national media seems to agree. Over the past years, many of these greatest QB lists have shown up and while Unitas is consistently mentioned, he is often just a few spots down from #1. His last notable appearance atop the board had to be in 2000, when he was named to the NFL’s All-Time team as starting QB.
Here’s a few bits from the article to review, and you can read the article in its entirety (as well as other related pieces) here.
Top 10 QBs of All Time
1. Johnny Unitas
2. Joe Montana
3. Tom Brady
4. Dan Marino
5. Peyton Manning
6. John Elway
7. Terry Bradshaw
8. Brett Favre
9. Otto Graham
10. Dan Fouts
Unitas also received praise for having the best play-action fake, the best killer instinct and running the best two-minute drill.
